Infrastructure of ₹32,000 Crores Value to be Built in Upcoming New Housing Layouts in AP

The Andhra Pradesh state government says that the upcoming new housing layouts being built will be worth upwards of ₹32,000 crores with fully developed infrastructure on completion. The construction of new housing layouts – called Building Energy Efficient Project (BEEP) is a collaboration between the Indo-Swiss governments i.e., the Union Ministry of Power, India and the Switzerland govt. The project is being implemented by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in associations with Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM).

This is a positive step towards development of new housing layouts which will have a proposed 28 lakh residential units after completion. The BEEP bilateral collaboration is currently training 13,000 engineers, employees, & village/ward secretaries in a phased manner on Eco-Niwas Samhitha. The aim is to implement these new global energy efficiency methods & measures in the 28+ lakh houses being constructed in Andhra Pradesh with the support of Indo-Swiss BEEP collaboration. The use of energy efficient methods for construction of these houses is an option that beneficiaries can opt for but it is not a compulsory feature.

The use of these new energy efficient building methods & designs can afford the beneficiaries to save up to 20% in energy savings by maintaining ambient temperatures and eliminating need for excessive use of air-conditioners and other devices. Of the ₹32,000 crore budget being spent, more than ₹7,000 crores will be spent on electrification processes alone. The construction of the first phase of these houses – 15.6 lakh houses in the 1st phase has been undertaken at an approximate cost of ₹28,000 crores and the construction is already underway for more than 10 lakh units spread across more than 10,000 layouts in the state. Approximately 250 warehouses & godowns will be setup at identified key housing layouts to make material availability easy for beneficiaries and to promote construction.
