Rock Blasting Causing Health & Noise Issues for Residents of Hyderabad

Construction activity in the city of Hyderabad is presently in full swing after the 2 slow years of 2020 & 2021 due to the pandemic. Most of the ongoing construction is of projects situated around the western & north-western part of Hyderabad, where the city’s IT corridor is located. There is a high demand for residential units & housing spaces in and around the IT hub areas of Hyderabad – Madhapur, Gachibowli, Miyapur, Kondapur etc. to name a few. As the demand is high, developers are launching more new projects to cater & keep up with the demand.

High construction activity in and around the western parts of Hyderabad is taking a toll on the area’s natural topography and is also impacting the health of residents living in the area and in neighbouring localities. To keep up with the demand of construction, developers & construction companies are carrying out rock blasting in neighbouring areas like Kukatpally, Jubilee Hills, Hitec City, Nallagandla, Raidurg & Madhavpuri Hills, which is causing noise pollution problems for residents of these areas. The movement of heavy machinery, boring, drilling, rock-blasting and other such activities are impacting the health of residents due to fine dust & noise pollution.

Residents of the aforementioned areas have also complained that activities such as rock-blasting and use of heavy machinery continues well into the night, causing sleep related issues for people in the area. Construction related activities have caused health issues like migraine, asthma, high blood pressure & insomnia for people living in areas such as Kukatpally, Jubilee Hills, Hitec City, Nallagandla, Raidurg & Madhavpuri Hills. Dust is also becoming a nuisance for residents of these areas as people have developed respiratory issues.

Real-estate industry experts meanwhile say that rock-blasting activity is not something that is completely avoidable but flattening entire areas of land is also necessary. Experts say that there are plenty of cities around the world with rocky terrain and where houses/buildings are built safely on slopes.
